There are two big differences and then a bunch of smaller, yet important differences:
1. The sugar used in ribonucleic acid (RNA) nucleotides is called ribose, while the sugar used in deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) nucleotides is called deoxyribose.
2. Instead of the nucleotide thymine (T) in DNA, the nucleotide uracil (U) is used in RNA.
The other differences as well — RNA can travel out of the nucleus to cause protein synthesis and RNA is much smaller than DNA since it just a copy of one portion of the immense DNA molecule. Also, DNA is highly stable, while RNA is degraded shortly after its creation. Finally, RNA exists as a single strand, while DNA exists as a double-stranded helix.
RNA is usually single-stranded, while DNA is usually double-stranded; RNA nucleotides contain ribose while DNA contains deoxyribose (a type of ribose that lacks one oxygen atom); and RNA has the base uracil rather than thymine that is present in DNA.
Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) contains one less oxygen than Ribonucleic acid (RNA). That is why it contains DEOXY in its name. They have different functions.

Both molecules contain the nucleotide base pairs adenine (A), guanine (G) and cytosine (C), however DNA contains thymine while RNA contains uracil (U). DNA is usually double-stranded, while RNA is usually single-stranded.
